I welcome new crew with good sailing base and intermediate dinghy or windsurfing
experience and who are eager to learn, to practice and to race and to commit a
good amount of time to it. This is a team sport that requires commitment,
skills and experience. It is also fun but it is not one of these weekend
activities that you do for fun only. The team needs to be balanced and the team
members need to have experience working together for the team to be effective
and the event to be enjoyable. One single last moment defection can have a
disastrous impact. Time together on the water is the essential ingredient for
our team to make reasonable progress.
We are racing PHRF with a practical crew limit of 8. The boat is easily
raced in class configuration with a crew of five
to six and, in PHRF configuration, there is room for a couple more
people. As underhanded racing is no fun, I would rather have more people than
less. However, I could also say that in the rare occasions we were eight
aboard, everybody had a meaningful task to do, in addition to being on the rail
when needed. This policy may produce a slightly less efficient light air
sailing but is well worth it for its advantages to the team and its individual
members.
